I'm just thinkin' - in general I like the batteries in the rear saddling the tank - I think you had your initial drawing/idea illustrating such.

I think you are gaining something by having the tank lengthwise along the keel, encroaching into the cockpit area. What was the tank configuration prior? I saw no tank in the tear-down. I saw you post you needed one, did it have NO tank when you got the boat? I'd bet the tank was entirely aft spanning from one side to the other of the boat?

It seems complicated, with the tank you have. I think your reasoning on placement of the tank is sound.

Originally had a small portable 6 gallon tank, the size of the hatches dictated nothing larger could fit, so since I have cap off, I was looking forward to being able to put a permanent tank in. Reason I am considering moving batteries up front now is because the weight (24 Gallons, roughly 148lbs, plus about 15 for tank) will be about the same as 2 6 gallon tanks and 2 batteries that used to be back there. I don't want the stern to be overloaded.

I am thinking about, building in the tank, deck/transom, filling tank, mounting motor, then float testing. If at that time it appears to be able to handle another 100 lbs in batteries, I will put them there. dunno, but his weight point was pretty valid and I am looking for other options. I have 2 good mounting points on either side of livewell, under the forward casting deck, so considering there.

Does that tank have a baffle(s)? 24 gallons is a lot of fuel, huh?

not sure, but since its a professionally made boat tank, original manufacturers plate still on it from 1985, I'd assume if it needed them it has them...no way to really tell unless I find a way of look inside lol

took the sending unit out, shined a light through the fill hole and took a peek, it did not have any baffles in it...its not that big really so doubt it will be too bad, the boat it came out of didn't have a problem that I know of lol. will see I guess!

Did you test the sender/pressure test the tank? I don't remember if I mentioned that or not, sorry if i'm repeating myself

Dunno why I spent so much time restoring my trailer, when I can fit an entire boat in the bed of my truck!

Finished cutting up my donor hull and my face!, another good reason to wear safety glasses, a few more inches and it could have been my eye that got it when my grinder blade shattered

it just grazed my cheek, but still shows why you plan ahead for what might happen

Oh my! You be careful with that one! Keep the cast iron skillets locked up and such. :D
Glad it just grazed you! I used to not like having to wear glasses but they do make pretty good barriers for the eyeballs.

Really a great looking job on the trailer. Not so much on the too close for comfort face trimming. A grinder blade is not an acceptable shaving alternative!!! Wish I could add helpful advice about the twin batteries & larger tank & weight. But I'm having a quandary of my own thinking I'd like to add twin motors to mine, plus an extra battery & extra tank to allow for the extra consumption.

Spent my 1st time with a grinder in mine today & AL w/ reevits is looking pretty good for a 2nd project!

Looking forward to seeing you get the cap back on. Super thread! Thanks

Judge,

You are NOT supposed to use a Grinder for shaving!!!! Man, I'm glad you're lucky, if it would have been me, half my face would have been gone. Glad you're ok. You dun rite gud on destroying the donor. Getting cold here in Okie-land so I broke out the sewing machine and started on my seats.

been busy sewing myself...but for a different purpose. Christmas parade next Saturday, and nobody gave much heads up. Then of course finding adult volunteers willing to help has been a pain, so have done it all myself so far

Made 2 14' long banners for side of the trailer, with ropes sewn in for tying it off and keeping it from sagging (rope goes entire length)

IMG_3646.jpg

then 4 banners 4' long with poles sewn in to top, for boys to walk with

IMG_3649.jpg

Then have been busy drawing, which I am not that good at, but the guy in our pack that is an artist flaked on me, so once again, I am doing it myself...

Banner actually has 7 different drawing, american flag, tiger and webelos insignia as well, but the picture limit per post, and I dont feel like making another post because, well, I would have to do it by myself!

Re: 1982 Skeeter SS-1 Sport Fisherman Restoration....Hull question

Thanks, I used to could draw pretty good, but here lately not so much...So will end up being pretty busy all week getting this done, the 4 walking banners I am having the kids paint, 1 for each den to customize and make their own, but the long ones I have alot of painting to do. Then need to set up the trailer, dang, I got alot to do!

Thanks everyone for well wishing, other than a pretty line across my cheek it is all good!

Hey JDA,

Great work on the Banners and all the required layout. That is a definite mission you have gotten yourself into, but I am sure you will get through it with flying colors.

I agree with Bob, you should be able to throw that old hull together in a week or two, and make it man-portable to boot...

And oh yeah, close shave man...heal up.

Best Regards,
GT1M

the things you do (or in my case, overdo) for your kids!...shoulda listened to the other parents and just threw some hay bales on a trailer and made it easy lol

It's called memories and your kids will remember it longer then a few bales on a trailer.
Have fun
