Hey again all....
This might be the one...
$1200/neg with a 50 HP
if all checks out.. would a 50hp be strong enough to have 4 adults aboard and tow a kid on a tube?
O and a big HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOMS ABOARD :D

Thanks :D

If that's a 16 footer I think you'd be happier with a 70hp.
I'm sure there's a few guys with the same rig that should know though.

Ahhhhh nice SuperSport !!! You should not have any problem tubing with that at all........ if you are desiring to water ski then it might be a bit low on power but doable.

Ya Bob.... Its only to pull my one of my boys tubing at a time... no skiiing here :)

As long as I can have the 4 adults onboard and pull a tuber. I would like to have a 70hp. But for now I wanna see how the 50hp performs. I might upgrade later in the future. I guess if I need to find a benefit of the 50hp.... is lower gas comsumption :D

I grew up with the 16' starcraft w/ a 55. Did fine for skiing, tubing, etc. w/ 4 teenagers on board. We were smaller then, though. Loved that 35 cent a gallon gas!

Re: 1982 Starcraft w/ 50hp

One last question.
After reading threads about fiberglass and aluminum hull boat restorations. *Generally speaking* when fiberglass boats have soft floors....they will have some part of a soft stringer or transom. Similarly, when reading aluminum boat resto threads I have noticed corrosion can be present. Since I cannot see the inside of the transom .... are there tell-tale signs I might be able to look out for while inspecting? Would an indicator of corrosion in "said" area be a walk-away indicator... thanks as usual :D

The ones we've seen with corrosion issues were generally used in saltwater and were also in overall pretty rough condition. I would be extremely surprised if that one had issues with corrosion. That's a very nice price and I think the 50 will be fine for you at least till you feel like upgrading. Good luck!

Thant one looks like a winner right there! Price seems about right even if you need to rebuild er. Anything less is icing on the cake!

Have fun:D

Re: 1982 Starcraft w/ 50hp

The picture is kinda small, but I like that rig...a lot! :)

Folks have run 50hp outboards on 16' Starcrafts, and if it's running well it'll plane out the boat just fine. Speeds have ranged from 25mph up to the 30s. I think one guy ran a newer Yamaha 50hp and saw 35 if I remember correctly.

Not a bad price either, but feel free to talk him down to $900;)
