Help! I'm restoring an 1982 Tyee and the livewell is all cracked up. I have been unable to find a replacement. Any suggestions?

Can you scuff the walls and reglass it? or use some new resin to seal it?

Would 5200 work for this?

Try Lund, Ebay, Great Lakes Skipper, etc, to see if you can get a replacement?

Is your live well is plastic? I have a 2008 Lund and mine is plastic. In 1982 though, they might have been aluminum. Aluminum is pretty easy to repair by using JB Weld or something similar. Lund might have the part still. Here is there ebay store address: http://stores.ebay.com/Lund-Boat-Co...idZ831644300QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14QQ_vcZ1

You could send them an email and get an estimate.

Building one is an interesting idea using the materials you cite. You can definitely get a custom fit.

I am going to custom mine by building an inner and outer skin from 1/4 plywood...

I will then glass over the inside of the inner box....

Glass the outside of the outer box...

then foam fill the space between...

I think that plastic board material is expensive?

An 3 foot by 18 inch piece is ~$27. Probably a 3x1 foot live well would cost around $90. The material is 1/2 inch thick so it would be pretty easy to screw it together with some type of 5200 as a sealant. The plywood/fiberglass route would work too for maybe 1/4-1/2 the price. The plastic board would be pretty simple to build and look more like the original equipment.

It may be cheaper but there is a trade off..

My way is alot more work

I have seen the tanks you are talking about building.

They are actually a good idea.

I even saw a plastics welder the other day that could seal up your joints!

Thanks for all the input, guys. I ended up building one from scratch using 1" foil backed foam and lining the inside with fiberglass. I work for a company that sells spray equipment so I had the surfact sprayed with gelcoat. Yes. It is pink. That's the only color we had back in the lab. The price was right. Here are some pictures.

WOW that looks fantastic. I doubt anyone will care about the color and fish do not care.

Great Job!
