I have been asking questions and reading posts nonstop from these forums to get this job done. Thought I might share my work thus far..................

At the end of the fall I bought a Wellcraft V20 1982 hull with a 2004 trailer, Evinrude 200HP, and new GPS/Finder/radio. Got a great deal but the boat had been a bit neglected.

no problem I thought, checked it out, found a few soft spots in the floor but transom was sound. Made a few trips out in the boat and loved it. Gulf Grouper closed so i thought I would fix the floor............THat was the beginning of my hearache.........

Be patient with pics, i am still learning:

Order of the battle:

- i cut out the soft spots on the floor and realized the rot extended beyond the soft spots. So the entire rear floor had to go. The bow had some bad wood also so it got cut out as well.

Definetly sounds like you been putting in a lot of work.. it is kind of hard to follow your pictures.. try using the take that photobucket provides and paste that into your post and your photo will show up in line..

takes longer but you will make the readers happy and get more responses

- All new wiring since I had it all exposed.

- didnt like the layout of the console so started cutting on it as well. Cut out rod holders to add 6" clearance to both sides. Made custom electronics boxes for better use of space. Made console 12" taller to raise windshield. All done with kiln dried PT and fiberglass.

Nice work. I was glad to see another boater use pt plywood in their repairs. Where did you get it kiln dried?

That console looks to be fairly tall. Are you going to be able to see over it?

Keep the posts and pics coming!

Re: 1982 wellcraft V20 renovations

I am 6'4 so the console is custom to me.

The PT I bought from a local boat repair/fibergalss shop. It is what they use on all of there renovations. 1/2" kiln dried PT = $80 5/8" kiln dried = $100. I bought most of my stuff from this shop in and got a lot of pointers from them as well!

More sanding today....pics to follow

Final layer of glass, I decided to settle for the mat texture rather than try to sand it all smooth and fail. It is going to be a working boat after all. Very pleased with the final result though.

After:

Glass is in! Woven mat for first layer and mat over that for better texture. Could have glassed the floor forever but found a finish I like and sanded it down. Good combination of texture and looks.

Neglected to share the final progress on the boat.

Here she is! Added a bimini and finishing touches. These photos are from our latest trip out which was in the keys. boat did great. Taking it to the gulf this week to catch scallops with the family.

For those of you dumb enough to tackle a restoration project stick with it! it is very rewarding in the end :) Thanks for all of the help! Questions and comments welcome:)

A completed project, a nice fish and a big smile, kind of says it all.

I know this is an old thread, just wondering if you still have this boat? I wish I could see the before pictures. All the links are gone.

Thanks for sharing

Had a V-20 Wellcraft 25 years ago.---Twin 115 HP.-----Wish I still had it.-----But today that boat will likely need full restoration.
