I have one side of the engine getting way too hot. The other side is much cooler to the touch. Any suggestions ??

Re: 1983 140hp evinrude cooling problem

The thermostat housing under the rear exhaust bubble has two thermostats, each regulating the temp on one side of the block. You can have a bad stat or the pinhole(s) in the valve body may be plugged. Likely you will need to get into that housing, so be prepared for some skinned knuckles-it's a tough job. I'd just go ahead and replace both stats. Also, check the pressure relief valves to make sure those nylon pcs were not distored by heat.
