1983 150 XR-2 ....tilt/trim issues! help!

so I just bought a boat with a great running 150 XR-2 on it, the catch was the trim/tilt isnt working(price negotiated accordingly). so what happens is I can hear the solenoids click when I go to raise/loser the motor, checked connections, all seem good. any ideas where to look and what to do? any advice is welcome!

Check for battery at the solenoids. If it's there, jump across the heavy terminals on each solenoid. If it moves, the solenoids are both bad. If not, the trim motor or connections is bad.

thanks for the advice! what I ended up doing eventually was pulling the pump motor off,taking it apart, cleaning the brushes and armeture, put it all back together, works like a dream. and to think, got the boat for 300$ less because of a problem i fixed in less than an hr lol
