OK HERE WE GO I HAD A 86 40HP EVINRUDE <br />WHICH BLEW A CYLINDER SO I BOUGHT AN 83<br />JOHNSON 35 IN WHICH RUNS HALF THE SPEED<br />AND HALF THE POWER OF THE 40 HP EVINRUDE<br />IS THIS NORMAL THE JOHNSON CHECKS OUT PERFECT<br />RUNNING ORDER AT THE DEALER THE MAIN DIFFERANCE<br />I SEE IN THE TWO IS 35 SINGLE CARB 40 DUAL CARB<br />35 STANDARD LONG SHAFT 40 OVERSIZED LONG SHAFT<br /><br />SO IS THERE ANY THING I CAN DO TO PEP UP<br />MY 35 THANKS FOR ANY INFO

The 35 and the 40 are entirely different engines, Agitt.<br /><br />Properly propped and rigged the 35 should perform just a little slower than the 40.<br /><br />Tell us about the prop you are using, the boat it is on, what rpm the 35 is getting at WOT.

ITS ON A NETTER 16-V WHICH IS ALUMINUM SEMI V<br />JOHN BOAT WITH A 13 PITCH PROP I THINK THE<br />40 HAD A 15 PITCH PROP ALSO IT SHAKES ALOT WITH<br />THE 13 PITCH BUT WITH MY 11 PITCH SPARE NO VIBRATION AT ALL THE 13 IS BRAND NEW<br />THE RPMS IM NOT SURE BUT THE ENGINE IS LOUDER<br />WITH THE 13 THEN THE 11

Hi, Agitt.<br /><br />First, don't shout. That is what capitals mean on the net.<br /><br />If you don't know the speed and you don't know the rpm you are groping around in the dark. You need to measure one or the other and give us some numbers.<br /><br />If your 40 performed well with the 15" prop the 35 will probably need the same prop. BUT: Don't do anything until you have some numbers to work with.<br /><br />Let us know.

oops sorry! is there a simple tool to measure<br />rpm or speed

Tachometers measure rpm.<br /><br />The best for measuring speed is a GPS. Even a portable, that you can borrow, will do the job.
