Like what can be done with a hygrometer to text the coolant mix for a car, what kind of test is there to see what my current oil to gas ratio is? In the three years I've had my boat, counting the gallons added, I'm just about to use my first tankful (I have a permanent tank of about 12 gal I was told by the previous owner). I did put Stabil in when the boat was in my garage for the past two years. I'm concerned that even though I've always done the recommended 50:1 mix, I might actually have a higher oil content due to what the previous owner didn't do correctly. Thanx.

You can probably do a viscosity test and compare it with that of a known 50:1 mix. But getting those apparatus is more hassle instead of just emptying the tank and refilling it with a proper mix. And then just use the old gas on your 2-cycle garden equipment.

If I read your post right, 12 gallons in 3 years? Use the boat more and you won't have to worry about it. Are you having any problems to make you think the ratio is too high?
