1983 Bayliner Contessa steering issues

I have a 1983 28' Bayliner Contessa, the steering is getting very tight & it takes all I can do to steer the boat. What can I do to make it a little easier to steer. I have tried to grease all the zerk fittings. THank you for your input. Jason

It could be the cable, the helm, or the mechanism on the outdrive. Try disconnecting the cable from the drive and see if you can turn the wheel easily. if so, the problem is with the outdrive. If not, the problem is the cable and/or the helm. The most likely culprit is the cable, but troubleshoot before throwing part$ at it.
