You may have issues with the main starter cables or solenoid. Validate the starter itself first with a simple test: try jumping it direct with jumper cables to a strong (well-charged) battery.

okay thank you. Could it be the solenoid isn't giving it enough power, meaning i need to replace it too?

Yes. That starter solenoid is a sealed unit. It has special contacts inside that will transer high starting currents when the key is turned to start. With age, these contacts can get burned. When burned they may not always transfer current well-seemingly causing starter issues-when they aren't. I've also seen them stick closed-with the starter just spinning forever with the key back in the "run" position. Also, make sure the battery cable ends to the starter/block are very clean and shiny. If they oxidize over the years, one or more of the cable ends may not transfer current well. Also not a starter issue.
