Hey all,

I got this 15 evinrude as a trolling motor, and it fires up and runs great but after a while(as it warms up, it seems) it starts to slowly die out...

Any suggestions? Could it be an ignition issue?? Coil??

Thanks,

Shane

Re: 1983 evinrude starts great, slowly dies out when warm

Hey all...

A little up date. I got my OMC book, and checked the coils with an ohm meter.

The low measurement was .1 +- .05, and my two coils were .07 and .06

The manual said the high was 275 +- 50 and my two were 263, and 253.

So now I am not sure what to do. I am assuming my coils are ok, so it must be the powerpack?

If it was fuel related (fuel pump/dirty carb) then the motor wouldnt run GREAT then just dye out .

after it dies it tries to start for the first two pulls, then wont do anything for a while and then it jsut fires up.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Shane

Try doing a park test when it quits on you. Coils are bad for working until they heat up and then fail as a result of heat. Also make sure your tank vent is working and try to pump the primer bulb when it starts to die to see if that brings it back. Let us know what you find out and best of luck. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "slowly dies out". Do you mean a very gradual loss of rpm's? over a minute or what? Rick.

I should have mentioned, I switched motors to my grandfathers 6hp evinrude, and with the same gas tank/ primer bulb and fished all afternoon.

It will be running fine, and then loose power , boogs a little and shuts off. (10-15 seconds) Almost like a lawnmower when it runs out of gas.

The motor has a good trail of water coming out of the pee hole so I also dont think it would over heating..

Thanks again,

Shane
