I have an 83 Johnson 7.5 J8SRLCTA.

When running the motor to push my sailboat, 3500#s, in idle or low throttle settings it works just fine and the bulb in the fuel line stays full and firm.

When running at WOT or a little less the engine will die and the fuel bulb is deflated and won't pump back up.

The vent on the tank is open. The tank is new, 6 gal. The fuel line and fittings are new.

The only way I can make the fuel bulb reinflate is to unhook the line from the engine and rehook very slowly letting air into the bulb. I can then pump it up and go. If I periodcally unhook/rehook while running I am fine.

The tank is higher than the motor when runnig but the line has to go over the transom of the boat and down to the motor. Am I starving the motor of fuel by the up and over of the line, or is it some other problem?

Motor sat for about 4 years without running before I purchased it and cleaned it up and went over it. Overall, nice running motor and no other problems.

Jim
