1983 johnson 140 engine missing

Started up and it runs fine but ever once in awhile the engine sounds like it miss fires does not sound like just one cylinder but all of them. Sounds like it just shuts off then runs again . Does this even on wide open throttle . Is it one bad spark plug or is it something else.

If you have a weak stator, it won't provide enough power to fire every plug on every rpm. You can get a random miss.

Getting a hard engine miss every 10 mins or so. How does one check the stator.

Check out this online troubleshooting guide: cdielectronics.com. They have specifics on qualifying both the stator and the timer base. YOu will need to rent/borrow a special "peak-reading" voltmeter in order to perform the test. Best to test it for cranking voltage output...

Thanks will give it a read and do have a fluke 79 to do some testing with.
Could not find any info on the site ,just found a part number of stator and manuals to buy .
