Hello,

We are also new boat owners. Can anyone give me some help on what premix to use for a 1983 Johnson 150hp 2 stroke? What ratio to use? Where do we get it?

Also, the "old" manual we have tells us to use ONLY unleaded gas. Since we can't get unleaded anymore, how do we get around that?

Thanks a bunch!

Till now, I wasn't sure what E-85 was. When I say....new boat owner, I meant it. We haven't even had a chance to take it out yet.

Doing a search, we would have to drive 150 miles away to get E-85. Is this what we would need? Is there some kind of additive for unleaded gas?

As far as the premix.....can you recommend a good brand name.....& where to get it?

Deb,

When your motor was made you could still by leaded gas. That is why the book says "unleaded only". The gas you by at the pumps now is unleaded gas. Do not run E85.

I'm sorry....on my original post, I said only unleaded....I meant only LEADED. I'm so confused. :)

So Unleaded is OK? Should it be premium unleaded?

Thanks,

Buy the TC-W3 outboard oil at a store, Debbie. Most discount outlets sell it in pints, quarts or gallons. Any brand certified to meet or exceed the TC-W3 specification is okay. I use Wal Mart's SuperTech brand.

You will need to mix 1 pint of the oil with each 6 gallons of unleaded regular (87 octane) gas. It is okay if the gas has 10% ethanol, but don't use gas that is more than that, like E-15 or E-85. That mix of 2% oil and 98% gas is what we mean when we say "premix".

Back in 1983 you could still get leaded (ethyl) gas, which was about the only gas with enough octane rating, so they asked for it. Today you can get unleaded well above the required 80 octane so you can use unleaded regular (87 octane).

Aloha, and Bon Voyage. :)

Thanks for all your help!

Now that we have an idea of what to get, we can finally get that boat into the water!

Debbie ;)
