I'm back at it. It's only been a year. I dry fitted my transom last night. I hope to have pics up soon. It's been so long since I've read most of the posts on here. The old stingers were 1x's and I was wondering if I should just use the Marine grade plywood instead? Also throughout the winter I set the cap back on the boat and noticed the bow of the boat is quite a bit wider than the cap. Before I put the floor in I'm guessing I will need to figure out the right width of the bow. Not sure if I should test fit the cap and use ratchet straps to bring the bow back to its original shape? I'm not sure how to make a form when the bow is now out of shape? I will try and post some picks of the transom tonight. Thanks

Yep, You need to get her Strapped ASAP, you can use some 1 by braces to screw in where the rub rail was to hold her in place. Don't want her to get to FAR out of whack.

Thanks Woodonglass for all the help. I know I haven't had as much time as I would like to work on my boat or get pics up as much as a should but the summer is short and I seem to find other ways to enjoy it. Anyway, I'm posting some pics of my transom I have fitted and two of the four stingers. I was able to pull the hull in using a ratchet strap and went through the live well holes. I have 1x4's on the outside of the hull to help reduce the stress but it seems to warp the sides with the tension. I'm a little nervous the top cap won't fit right.

I built the transom up to 1 3/4"

The side two peices were not in there before. I figured it wouldn't hurt to add them in as extra support?



This is how I tried to pull the two sides together. It's roughly where it should be while comparing it to the top cap.



I should of taken a picture of the outside of the hull so you can see the flex of the fiberglass. I'm thinking if I can get the floor in then I could test fit the top cap. When I do test fit the top cap I won't be able use my ratchet straps because the live well will be in the way. If someone has an idea that would be great.

Here is the tray that the wire harness and steering cables goes into. It's a little tricky trying to get everything level when nothing is fastened down. It's pretty close to where it should be but a little sanding is still required.



This pic is from the transom looking down. Do you think the gap between the two pieces can be filled in with some peanut butter? I don't know how to make it but I'm guessing I could use it to fill in the gaps before I glass.

I have another question. Should I notch out any of the stingers for water to drain correctly? I saw someone on here put a one inch pvc pipe under the stinger in a couple spots to drain the water. Should I use PL to glue the stingers down before glassing them?

I fiberglassed my transom in last night. It looks great! I mixed up some peanut butter and used it to fill in the gaps before glassing and it was really thick. Can someone please tell me how they made their peanut butter? I've read many threads on here but they never explain it. Even Ooops never explained it in his thread. So.. What do I need to do to get perfect peanut butter before I slob it all over my stingers? Just in case someone answers... Thanks

You don't slob PB all over your stringers. Here's a pic on how I recommend doing your stringers. And a video on how to make it.

Here is the transom in place and glued. I coated all the wood with resin first.



This was my atempt at peanut butter before I knew how to make it. It actually worked out pretty descent. Just a little hard to spread.



Here is the other corner.



It did what I wanted, fill the gaps.

So this a top view of the transom starboard side corner. I covered it with two sheets of glass.

I went and picked up 1/4" dowels for under the stringers. Do I need to keep that big of a gap between the hull and the stringers? I know I can't have any hard spots between the stringer and the hull but 1/4" is a lot to fill in with PL? Wood, when putting the dowels underneath the stringers and gluing them, how did you keep the stringers level? Did you keep the dowels in after the glue was set? I have the stringers fitted already without thinking of being a 1/4" higher. Thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate the comments.

So I haven't been on here for awhile because life has been busy. Here are some pics of the little progress I've been able to do.



Here I'm gluing down the the stringers.



This is the PB I used to fill all the gaps. The smoother I got the PB the better the fiberglass layed down.



Layed out all the fiberglass and started fiberglassing the stringers in.



This is the point I'm at now. I have one of the cross members fiberglassed in. I think I'm going to add some fiberglass along hull to strenghen it before I get too far with my cross members.

Last year I placed the top cap back on the boat for storage. When I did that it was a little off so I used a tie down strap and pull the hull together for the winter. It worked out pretty good. The width is right where it needs to be. The length however, is not. I built the transom out to 1 1/2" and the original was only 3/4". I'm not too sure what I'm going to do? I don't want to trim down the transom and I'm a little iffy on cutting the backsplash. I'm about 3/4" of an inch off. Does anyone have any ideas?

I looked through your thread and didn't see where you cradled the boat to hold the shape while you worked on it, did you just leave it on the trailer without additional support?

The cap not fitting back right is usually one of the problems you'll have when you don't cradle your boat to hold the shape perfectly.

Here are the cross members fiberglassed in.



There was some rotten wood at the bow of the boat were the tow hook bolted into. I replaced it and refiberglassed it in.

I did not craddle the boat at all during the restoration. I wish I could have but I don't have the room and most of the work has been done outside. On post #43 I used a ratchet strap to pull in the sides of the boat as I fiberglassed the hull. It came out pretty spot on. I fit everything last night and it looks great. I had to cut the splash well for everthing to fit. I will post the pics. Thanks for the response!
