Ok, Here is what has been done to this engine so far.

Pulled off all carbs, cleaned installed new gasket sets, floats, needle valves and seat.
Replaced Fuel line and bulb, Mixing Valve for twin tanks.
Installed repair kit in fuel pump. Cleared all all bleeder line hoses of varnish and replaced one check valve and cleaned all the other valves out.
Replaced Plugs
New Trigger

Now here is the problem we are incurring.
It will start but will not idle for more than 30 seconds.
When the engine is put into gear (foward or reverse) engine dies.
Compression is good.
Taken Discharge off of fuel pump and cranked motor good supply of fuel is present.

You need to do a link & sync according to your manual. How the compression?

Link and Sync Completed Timing is Now perfect to the manuals specs.. BUT... The Idle was great with a sock on it so we took it to the lake so we could put it in gear and as soon as we back her up in the lake and tried to crank her up, she turned over and would not hold an idle. We are getting very frustrated at this point and have no clue what else it could be.
Someone Please help...

Having the same problems with my 150. It just won't idle more than 15-30 seconds. Not to mention my won't go in reverse.

Does the idle come up when you pump the primer bulb or if you give it a bit of choke. If so there is a fuel problem. If there is no change then I would look to spark as the problem. I think you said that the comp,s are ok.

Final idle setting should be done in the water and in gear. I found that with mine if I set the idle at 1000 RPM while running on muffs, it came out to be very close to what is needed.

IF IT HAS good compression, (yes I'm yelling) and it's getting gas and spark, it should idle. If it doesn't it has to be loss from the crankcase, either a gasket or a reed.

That is assuming that the COMPRESSION is good, and you've checked out the FUEL and SPARK issues.

hope it helps

Had the same issue in my 89 Blackmax 150. would idle for abit then die. would always die being put into gear or reverse unless i gave it enoguh throttle to get out of an in gear at idle. Turned out i needed a new stator. It had a high and low on it and the low was shot so it would not idle well. Should be a way for you to test.

He mentioned that the compression was good in his first post.

Testing the stator charge coils with a DVA is the test.
Coil voltage, and also bias would be checked at the same time.

Shade tree test is to run all 6 spark plug wires to a spark gap tester, set at 7/16". Should be a good reliable spark on all six when cranking.

hope it helps
