So I'm looking at buying this boat from my friend and his dad had a portable tank hooked up to the motor and ran great then hooked it up to the gas tank of the boat and it won't start if it does it'll go for a second but not long. Boat is nice and I was wondering what could be the problem. He told me the tank had 10 gal or so and it sat for roughly 8 months or longer. And we replaced the plugs, cleaned the carbs, new primer bubble as well. Could the oil settled and clogged the pipe in the tank and restrictling flow maybe?

Sitting for 8 months or longer, that gas isn't really gas anymore..
Should drain it, clean it, check hoses, venting, anti-siphon valve (if equipped) fuel filters, water separator if has one etc...

Wouldn't expect it to run of internal tank as you describe it..
Not a pro, so there may be more to do than that, but emptying it out and starting with fresh gas is a must...

Try another portable tank.

My guess is water in the permanent tank. Draw some fuel up from the bottom, or just pump some from that tank using the connected primer bulb -- let it set in a gas jar, and see what settles out (fuel will float on top of the water). The gas itself might still be OK if you can get the water out. Use a water separating filter (Racor or similar), and add a bottle of drigas to the tank.

Okay awesome thank you yeah earlier my buddy added 7 gal of mid grade and I added sea foam to it. And I'm doing a trickle charge on the battery. I plan on adding a 20 micron fuel filter and plan on putting 2 cycle oil in my lawn mower 2 gal tank not worried about the mower smoking lol but I'm just gonna stick the hose in the tank and let it suck that way to see if the motor Will run if so I guess I got a lot of cleaning of that tank to do lol haha. I plan on pulling the pick up tube out to see if there is a filter on it or something.

Until you verify, assume the pickup tube is pulling water (bottom of the tank). Motors do not run on water.

An inline fuel filter will not help if water is the issue. (Nor will adding fresh gas -- or sea foam.) You would need a water separating filter (google) -- would install one after you get the existing water out of the tank, and expect the filter to pick up future contamination. For small amounts of moisture, products like Dri-gas (isopropyl alcohol) will mix with the water to allow it to burn.

Thank you old boat I checked for water before my work shift I've just been to busy to get back but I put heat a whole bottle of heat in 8 or 9 gals of fuel let it sit for 10 mins shook the boat pumped some gas in a mason jar saw a couple small water bubbles. So I put the fuel filter on and she started up without even using choke or anything I hit the key and it went didn't even stutter. Thank you for the info gonna test the boat tmr see how I like it on the lake.
