I pulled apart the tilt motor mechanism mounted to the intermediate housing on my 1983 sea swirl inboard outboard 3.6 litre with an omc stern drive. There was lots of water in the casing so I want to replace all seals and orings.

I have been looking for the kit but I can't find it. Doesn't anyone know where I can get a kit not just the separate pieces? Does anyone know the part # for this?

I also want to get a parts manual for this boat but I am having a hard time finding the correct one. which one should I get. motor is gm v6 3.6 litre 1983 with a omc stern drive.

thanks

shop.evinrude.com
select parts
then sterndrive and 1983
then pick your model (3.8, not 3.6)
convert

Re: 1983 tilt motor mechanism

Water in the tilt clutch housing is a fact of life with the stringer drive. Just check drain and refill often. Some pack it with grease.
If the water is allowed to build up it will "float" the oil up the shaft housing and in to the motor damaging it. And as your will (if you haven't already) find the motor is a major PITA to replace on a V-6. You will have to pull the boot to get to it.

And BTW there are several little nylon washers in about 3 sizes that are absolutely crucial to proper operation of the tilt system.
