Hey guys,

I've got a 1983 Tohatsu 55 that's really running awesome, except for 2 things: idling and accelerating

I've got it on a 1984 16 foot center console Privateer. it's a light boat. it's an awesome boat.

When i idle, it barely goes, when i move it up to go a little faster (aka, move out of the no wake zone before dark) it shimmies and shakes. i'm thinking it's the carb and/or the mixture. but i'm not sure.

On the flip side, when i go to actually GO i have to go full throttle and them adjust it millimeter by millimeter to get to a good speed and stay there. i'm constantly messing with the throttle to keep a consistent speed.

Thoughts? i'm not taking it back to the shop. i don't think they know what they are doing, at least not enough to charge what they are charging.

Thanks

Welcome,You should post this in the Tohatsu section. You'll get more help.
Try a little choke as you apply the throttle. If it helps then it indicates a fuel delivery problem. The idle may just need the idle stop adjusted.
