I've got a 1983 90 hp Evinrude that up until last Sat ran great. While driving it at approx 25 MPH it lost all power and died, after it died a big puff of white smoke came out from the exhaust and steam came out from the aux tube (pee hole). The engine was so hot it burned the skin off my leg after just touching it. After it cooled down it would run for a little while then die. Sunday it started with the flush adapter connected and water came out through the pee hole but not through the 2 tubes that run from the (I think it's called the) transfer ports (or something like that) to the heads. I took off the lower unit and the water pump/impeller looks good, no cracks or dry rotting. I tried to run water straight through the bottom of the copper pick-up tube to the engine and still no water through the ports, aux (pee hole) yes, engine no. What does this sounds like to you? I'm thinking a clogg somewhere, but where could it be?

Skeeter,

I have that exact engine.

I would pull the thermostat housing and the heads.

Thermostats. The housing is between the heads on the bottom rear of the engine. The two large hoses going from the heads go to that housing.

Heads. You have prbably cooked both head gaskets. Check for cylinder wall damage. Also, you may have melted the cooling water diverters.
