I got no manuals or anything with this motor.

Can someone tell me how many amps the alternator would be on a 1984 V4 Johnson 115 HP??

I am wanting to wire in a pair of 55 watt docking lights and don't know if they would place too much draw on the system.

It may be 9amp....they put some 6amp stators on some too. I think my '98 crossflow was a 6amp. 1 lamp will pull the juice big-time...it "might handle 2 but only for a few minutes and your electricals like fishfinder and what-not will go into auto shut-down.

There were two stators that year. A 6 amp and a 10 amp. The 10 amp stator was used on engines which had power trim.

Thanks gentlemen!!

Mine should be the 10 amp then with the power trim. Sounds like 2 lamps still might be a stretch. :(

Not at all. The docking lights should only be used while docking (boats don't have 'headlights') and the light will destroy your and other's night vision if used for more than docking only. A few minutes is not going to suck the life out of your electrical system.

I have a high powered spot light on my boat and it's used only for spotting channel buoys in tight places, then immediately to 'off'.

Book says 9amp....don't and haven't seen any 10amp systems. Doesn't matter. Several of the "SPL" engines had the 6amp, 88, 112, 115, etc...all had T-N-T as well. Some were listed without, but very few.
No, the lights won't "suck" the life from your electronics but dropping voltage enough to go into auto shut-off on GPS/Fishfinders etc, will shorten their life....considerably.
Remember, you're not getting much for charge current until you get up to 3500-4000rpm.
