I have a 1984 evinrude mounted on th back of a 1984 19ft starcraft islander.
How do I find out if it is a long shaft or a short shaft? The motor has very low compression and I am replacing it but I need to know the shaft size.
The model number will have an "L" in it for the long shaft-20". The 25" models usually have an "X" (for extra long) in the model code. Look for the aluminum serial/model plate riveted on the transom bracket.
my 1986 150 has a L in the model # does mean I have a 20" shaft? I measured the shaft from the water pump (where it mates up to the case) and I get 22".
I was not the orginal person to post this thread. However, like the poster I need to know how to determine the shaft lenght of my motor. Thanks for any help you can lend to this topic.
