WOEISMEIGOTTA470 The 3.0 liter 140HP Mercruiser that is actually a Chevy motor gets great gas mileage and on a calm day on Lake Erie has got my boat up to 37mph with 1 passenger. I usually only go about 24mph unless its rough then slower.

That's excellent! I'm really looking forward to seeing how well my setup will perform. I hear these GM inliners are solid motors.

Also thanks WOOD for the advice, I'll know for next time.

The stringers are in the boat peanut buttered in and tabbed with one layer of 1708 biaxil, heated garage to mix resin and put cover on boat with electric blower heater. I was able to cut belly board out for gas tank and put layer of CSM on bottom of it will PB it in when I get time. Work has been busy and weather not cooperating. Just thought I would update a little bit ,the pictures of other projects are spurring me on. I want to demo out starboard transom that holds swim platform cause I don't trust it, however it holds swim platform that has been giving me access in and out of boat.stringers #1.jpgstringers #2.jpgbelly board cutot.JPG

Time to break out the ladder!

Lookin' good Brickie! I see you've been making good progress as well. I got lucky with the weather this past weekend and have updated my progress too. Keep up the good work!

Hey guys i'm putting 1.5oz CSM on gas tank belly board and it lays down nice, however when I try to wrap corner I get air pockets and have to grind it back off. Whats the trick for 90? corners with CSM?

Hard to explain without drawing it, but take a square of mat..make a cut from center of one side to the center of the square. Then you can fold the two flaps together...one of Frisco's videos he shows how to do it...

EDIT:

Found the vid..around the 8 minute mark is what you are looking for..

I think your talking about doing the edges of the plywood, correct? Wrapping the CSM down over the edge?

Oversize the piece of CSM, wet out the flat area, then gently tug at the CSM along the edge, until it's sort of feathery, it'll lay over & down an edge better.

Not having a hard corner helps A GREAT DEAL. A slightly rounded edge will allow the glass to gently roll over the curve & down on the edge. Curve about the radius of a #2 pencil.

NOT from a fiberglass boat but something about like this:

Hey guys thank you for the advice, I think I got it, need to get a router and pull the chop strand around corner and experiment. BTW I checked out both of your sites and wow! I'm inspired you guys got it going on, this site is the best thing going for boat rebuilding. The weather got cold and I stored the resin in a crawl space where it wont freeze, the heating in the garage and the boat to expensive. The project shut down until warmer weather or I clean garage out re-organize and put boat in and just heat garage. I was worried even though I had temperature 70? in garage where mixing and in the boat with the cover on, was to cold outside and would not bond well to cold Hull. To everyone have a happy Thanksgiving!

Good to hear! Welcome back from the long winter hiatus! I too am still very much a landlubber at the moment. I'm finishing up foaming the deck as well as some glass work, dropping all the mechanical's back in place has yet to happen.

Woeismeigotta470 this is my busy season, i have not had a day off in 2 months, i have only been able to cut plywood for over gas tank area. I hope to find time to glass it and paint bilges . I want to fiberglass seat boxes back in. I am going to look at your site as it sounds like your getting a lot done. Keep up the work it inspires me. I am taking a break from work and going King Salmon fishing with friends from work in New york next weekend . I will probably really want to finish boat then.

Hey, yea just figured I'd drop in, was curious of where you were at since it had been a while...
Yeah I know how frustrating it can be not finding the time...the boat is like my second job, I try to get work in after I come home everyday from my 9-5, but that's not always a reality. I've been making progress but it's been kinda slow IMO. I can't wait to be done with the friggin' glass work, and to start putting everything back together already..

Enjoy that salmon fishing, that ought to be a fun trip! Hope you can find some time for your project when you get back. Good to hear from you.
