I'm leaning in that direction myslef, but it does make it a much more daunting challenge. I might do the blind rivets first and at least do a water test before going forward. I'm going to try and at least peek under the diamond plate tomorrow and get a better idea of what I'm dealing with.

Andy,

Don't be "daunted"! I bought a fiberglass boat off Craigslist 3 years ago, brought it home, started checking things out, and OMG the transom core was mush. I figured I'd bought an unrepairable "hole in the water" until I found this site. Everything I needed to know on how to fix things was free for the asking. The experts here know what they are talking about. If you get stuck, just make a post on your thread and you'll get the info you need.

Go for it,

Re: 1984 22 ft. Starcraft Aluminum Center Console - Restorable?

After working on the boat for a while this past weekend, I realized that it is a bigger job than I can bite off right now for a bunch of reasons. There is A LOT of a apoxy on the hull, more than I realized at first. I will probably stick to my original plan and repurpose the trailer and the OB for another project.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the hull. I might consider letting go to a good home for free after I get the OB off. If anyone were interested, post here. It's a really cool hull, so I'd hate to junk it, but it's just too far gone for me.

Well rats Andy, I do hope she can find a good home.

Too bad I'm not a bit closer to you. I'm sure my better half would be super excited to have me haul home another boat project:eek:

All the best man.

I still have some work to do on the engine, so its not a crazy rush. I won't trash it before exausting all of the other possibilities. PM me whenever.

Aww, a 22' that would be sweet. My mouth is watering just thinking of it.... A bit to far for me, besides not to sure if the dealer would be to happy if I walked back in and said, sorry I would like to return the 115 etec I just purchased for a 200 hp etec, lol.

Andy, just remember this, if I may.

From everything I have read on this site, most of the boats on the site are project boats. Not very many are pushed out in a couple of months. There are several things that determine the outcome, most of wich are money and time. Some of the poeple here even do it just for the love of it.

Me, I was offered a used boat, newer than mine for "X" amount of money. It is a decent boat, a 16' with a side console. Definitely cheaper than what I am going to put into my project alone. But not exactly what I had wanted, so I have opted to go the trial and error approach. Hopefully complete some of the work with my dad and learn a thing or two in the process.

All the best.

Re: 1984 22 ft. Starcraft Aluminum Center Console - Restorable?

I'm going to be lifting the OB off this weekend, so I'll be looking to get rid of the Boat itself in the next week or so. I need to get to work on the trailer its sitting on.

I do feel bad scraping it, but everyone I've had look at it has been scared off by all of the apoxy. I'd give it away for free at this point, I might even be willing to deliver it relatively locally if someone wanted a project hull. The boat is in Lincoln Park, NJ.

Please PM me if you have interest. My next step is craigslist, but I'd almost assume whoever I gave it to from there would likely be just scrapping it themselves.

Hey Andy, if Bob decides to not take the boat, ill gladly sweep it up from ya. I've been looking on craigslist for a mariner cc restore for a month now, and have only found a couple overpriced(in my mind) hulls. Im south from you in the sticks of south Jersey but I work in New York almost every week day. As far as craigslist... yes that would be a scraper, but me and Bob would definately give you something to look at when done.

Re: 1984 22 ft. Starcraft Aluminum Center Console - Restorable?

I looked at the boat friday, it is a huge boat....much deeper than I had thought..it looks longer than 22, but i didnt measure it. it is very hard to read the tag. but based on the transom motor well shape it does look like a 220V mariner...

its all there, and a little more project than i can takle right now with all i got going on this summer...and I dont want to sit it at my GFs place for a year or two...

the stringers look to be about a foot high!!...Andy is offering a sweet deal....his worry about the hull having bolts and epoxy is over rated in my view.... i was under my 18 footer grinding off worn rivets and then popping them right through the hull....and replaceing with bucking rivets. you could do the same with the bolts the previous owner used to repalce his popped rivets...the epoxy and bolt head just get ground off together..

that looks like a rare boat....22'3" about accroding to the brochures.....as it was it would not fit on the trailer i have!!

the previous owner pulled all the wood and installed all aluminum treadplate!! the orginal foam is all there..and he shortened the fron step deck to about half orginal....lots of room lots of potential.....

thanks for showing me Andy....wish i could take it...

Here are some more pictures for anyone interested. I REALLY don't want to scrap this boat, I'm honestly looking forward to following a restoration thread on this forum.

ok, here is how we will do it! The closest person to him takes it, then we find the next closest and so on and so on, until it gets to the right home:D I gotta say that i would love to have it to work on, but my free time and money is going into my blufin build right now! ( that is unless if it takes like a year to get over to my neck of the woods!;))
