I recently aquired a motor that runs great on the muffs but when recently taken out on a few runs we received mixed results. Day one we had no power to speak of, but the motor would crank and idle fine. After 20 mins of this we beached the boat and noticed a gas leak from under the carb going into the float bowl. Headed back to the ramp, and the boat woke up for some reason. Fixed the leak and too her back out yesterday. Cranks awesome, idles perfect, but could not get the boat to go over 7 9 miles per hour. I know the history of the boat and I know it will haul butt! We rebuilt the carb, lubed and adjusted the throttle linkages per service manual, etc. While we were running SLOW yesterday, my buddy coulg restrict the carb with two fingers and the boat would lurch forward for as long as he restricted. Checked the out tube on the fuel pump and it pulsed out very good. What else are we not doing?

Giving the carb a tear down and thorough soaking and cleaning

79 miles pr Hour - Whew - what did you expect he he.

First check spark, by letting both jump a 3/8 gap. Put a nail or bolt in sparkplug boot and let someone pull cord while you hold nail in distance from block with an insulated plier or dry cloth. If both jumps with strong blue flame, there is probly dirt in smal passages in carb somewhere. Clean all passages, not the visible. Do a testrun and let us know your outcome. Did you check all linckages are on carb, and butterfly opens to vertical.

OK, I have checked compression120 on both cylinders. Got a great spark at the end of both wires. Have thoroughly cleaned the carb and all the small passages. Fuel pump is pumping great. All fuel lines are clean. When it is out of water it sounds like its running great, put it in water and it will still only go about 7 or 8 mph. While I’m running it as fast as it will go I can put my thumb over the air entrance of the carb and it will pick up speed fast. It cranks first time and idles great, but in water it will not get close to full throttle. I do not know where to go from here. Any ideas would be great.
Also the reeve value are in good condition.

Thanks for any advice

Your symptoms still point to the carb.
