I have a problem starting my 1984 75 hp outboard. If someone squeezes the fuel bulb while i'm turning it over it starts. It will eventually start and if im cruzing its fine, and its fine after a while just idleing, but it does have a hard time idleing in the beginning. Like i said if some pumps that bulb its ok. You can hear it running out of gas even if i use throttle. I replaced all the fuel lines and the bulb assembly. Any ideas? Please help.

Re: 1984 75 hp outboard

No need gents (and Ladies?). I found the problem. There is what i believe to be a back flow valve in the fuel pump. Its what appears to hold the pressure for the bulb. I got a new diaphram for the fuel pump but that didnt do the trick it was that back flow valve. I adjusted the bracket that holds the valve in enough to allow the valve to do its job and move freely and she starts and runs just fine now. If anyone needs help i consider myself an expert now ( just kidding ). Hang in there everyone.
