1984 75hp 2 stroke outboard mercury

Need help I installed a new water pump housing and impeller but now after installed motor will only pump water out of the 2 exhaust ports but nothing but some exhaust out of tell tale what did I do wrong also was tested in the lake not muffs? Is it filling the block I ran long enough for it to start peeing and is it cooling the motor still? Before I put up lu I put water hose on inlet tube to make sure the tell tale was clear and it peed fine???

sounds like the pick/up-tube is not aligned into the power head, therefor not pumping it up into the head; but circulating in the mid-section.

stop running the motor & pull the lower-unit to make sure the pick/up-tube goes into the powerhead

while the lower-unit is off, you could also check the impeller to see if the fins are all facing the right direction

Thank you for the help I'll pull tonight I did spend some time getting the tube aligned with a small sqrew driver Last time so I am wondering if the impeller fins are backwards and also when I got the new water pump kit it has a white pick up tube in box but does not fit into the up half of the tube is that normal do some modules not take the white pickup tube out of the waterpump?

The white Tube is a guide for the copper-tube I'm not sure if in all cases you need it.
check also the rubber seat/bushing/sleeve inside the upper part of the pump for; seating correctly

an easy way to install the Impeller; once the Impeller is on the drive-shaft apply some WD40 to the cup and slide the upper -part of the pump-housing over the drive-shaft till it makes contact with the Impeller, apply some pressure while you turn the drive-shaft CLOCK WISE and push the housing down till it seats----torque down nuts
