I am installing a 2006 Yamaha 4 stroke 90Hp with a 25" leg on a 1984 Bayliner 16.5ft Cutty. I was thinking of using a 13 x 19p prop. Would this be a good setup? I think the old 85Hp Force had a similar prop size and pitch. Because the newer Yamaha has significantly more power should I go with a 21 or 23 pitch? The boat will be used for a runabout and maybe pulling the occasional toy.

If you are buying the engine from a dealer, arrange to test a prop as part of the deal. I think that 21 pitch will be too much and I suspect that even 19 pitch may tax the engine. While 90 horsepower is 90 horsepower, the 4 cycle engines don't have the same low end torque as the 2 cycle engines. They do perform differently on the same hull.

Therefore while the Force was using a 19 pitch prop nicely on your hull, it does not necessarily mean that the Yammy will also be happy using the same pitch prop. If at all possible, TEST before you buy.
