Hello, I'm very new to the boating world, so please forgive me if I seem boat illiterate. I recently got this 1984 Chaparral boat for my husband and we are trying to restore it before he comes home from Iraq, but heres the problem. I am not really sure what model it is and I would love to know. and if anyone could tell me a good place to get replacement rails and things I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Welcome to iboats. Thank you for your suppoert and your husbands service.

I will try to fix your photos so they show up. It is very very difficult to just go on a photo. Obviousy you have the regisitration so that will help.

What length is the boat?

Replacement parts and things are 98% aftermarket since boat companies turn over so fast. Whatever you need we will guide you in the right direction.

Iboats store is a good source and has great customer service ;) http://www.iboats.com/Boat_Parts_Accessories/dm/

I can see some possible problems in your pictures so we will take it one step at a time.

Well they did not manufacture a 16' that year but seeing the engine I will take a guess it is a 172V model. Perhaps another member will recognize it.

So who is going to do the restore? I can see it needs new seat bases built and what is that piece of rotten wood showing?

I have no idea, it would have been so easy if they would have just left the stickers or a book with it or something. A few of the males in my family are going to help me but mainly me and my husband. That piece of rotten wood is from one of the upholstered parts, which we are having redone as soon as I get the covering in the mail. We also got new carpeting for it, as you can see its got some marine life growing from it.

I really like what you are doing. I wish you the very best with it and am sure your husband will be really happy with it. You are amongst the best people in boating on this forum and will without doubt get all the help you need.
