Hello folks, i am new to this forum and a new boat owner as well. Well the boat is not that new, but new to me. I have an 1985 VIP with a 1984 Chrysler outboard. The motor runs like as if it is flooded, kind of bogged down. The guy i bought it from, thinks its one of the carbs. I also had a friend look at it and thinks its one of the two carbs as well. I have looked on every website that i can find, with no luck on finding a carb rebuild kit. The motor model is 908V4B. I am reaching out to you guys (The Experts) to see if ya'll might know were i can locate a carb rebuild kit for this model motor. Website or number to call would be great or even a rebuilt kit from a different model that is interchangeable with mine. From what i understand from reading around, Chrysler parts are hard to find but not impossible. Any help would be great!

From what I can gather, the part number you're looking for is FK10151. Try googleing FK10151.

$23.68 per carb plus shipping. Kind of pricey for what you get.

Another site Item # 1

$17.00 per carb

Well, you have a 4 cylinder 90. It is actually a de-rated 105. This happened when Chrysler started rating their engines at the prop instead of at the powerhead. Getting late so I will be brief.

Your friend, and the guy you bought it from? Don't listen to them! --No offence, but the carbs stick out like women's T*Ts and every man wants to **** with them.

They need to be the last thing you mess with!

The engine is an unknown to you--no history--so start from scratch and assume that everything that can be out of adjustment is.

Start with the basics. Do a compression test on all four cylinders. Then check for spark on all four. Put in new plugs (Champion L20V, 322, NGK BUH), Check to be certain that timing is set to 30 or 32 degrees advance at wide open throttle. Then, starting from the fuel tank, check the complete fuel system for clogs, leaks, and restrictions. Replace the fuel pump diaphragm and gasket. Replace the water pump impeller. Change the lower unit oil. Now, buy a manual and synchronize timing and carbs.

After doing this if you still have a problem, NOW it is time to mess with the carbs. First, using the manual, set the low speed needles--open 1 1/4 turns from lightly seated to start and adjust from there. Just be certain to not set them leaner than 3/4 turn out or you will melt pistons.

Now, if you have flooding problems, clean the carbs. A good disassembly and cleaning with WD40 will usually be good enough without rebuilding them.

PS. While on most engines changing carbs will not yeild more horsepower, That engine has small 1 5/16 venturi WB carbs. If you get the larger manifolds and TC carbs with 1 5/8 venturis, you can squeak out another 5-10 HP. If you are interested in larger carbs, send me a private message.

Parts can be found at the Chrysler Crew or franzmarine@aol.com

Re: 1984 Chrysler 90 HP

welcome to Iboats forum, I have been reading here for about a year and the people here are really helpful. this is my first post as well, I guess it is time to pay the piper, so...I use two main web sites to find diagrams and part numbers for my 79 chrysler 75. the first is crowleymarine dot com (I dont know if it is ok to put links in the forum) and the second is mercruiserparts dot com. so go to crowley and on the left, click on parts catalog. You should be brought to the search by year horsepower and model box, next to that on the right, you can click on search by model and serial range. click on the product line dropdown to chrysler , then the model down to 90 (1984), and they should give you a list of serial numbers, click yours...then click ok to procede to diagrams...once you are at the diagram page, click on carburator and look for repair kit-carb (1)...that number (FK10151) is the original part number for your carb rebuild kit...you copy and paste that number into google or your favorite local marine parts web page...chrysler doesnt make parts anymore so you might see either sierra, quicksilver or bk part numbers in the descriptions. Iboats doesnt seem to have that part number so try marineengine dot com or just google the original part number and look around...kinda rambled on but I like the diagrams...good luck, johnny:)

Wow, that is some good info. I am definately going to start by assumeing everything is out of adjustment. I think that is the best advice to anybody that buys a new boat. The websites you guys listed take me right the what i was looking for. I don't know how you guys found it, but thankyou. I thought I had googled everything in the world to find that damn kit. I almost started to think that they didn't even exsist. I have noticed though, when looking for parts for this motor, it ofted referes me to a FORCE or Mercury product line. Do they have any relation when it comes to parts?
