What should the compression be? I bought an older boat and checked compression right at 75 each cylinder. This seemed low, but they were consistent. It's a project boat and I haven't decided what to do about the engine yet. I haven't attempted to run it yet.

Welcome to another Jacksonville member. i would first do a Decarb on that engine. then recheck the compression. also try a different gauge, they all read differently. the 6 cylinder are also low compression engines.

I would think 75 is low. That year engines have lower compression heads, but still I would think the normal is more around 90 lbs. Follow Tas' recommendation on the decarb, then post the latest compression numbers. Make sure all the plugs are out and that you have a strong battery when checking compression.
