Hi everyone,
I am currently having an odd issue with my 84 Evinrude 70. When I put the boat it, it starts perfect, runs perfect. No issues. When I stop and shut it off for a little bit, thats when the issue starts. It will start right up, but won't go much past idle speed when I put it in gear. In neutral I can rev it up and it sounds fine. If I put it in gear and try and give it a little it will just die. It will slowly come out of it but sometimes it takes a bit. If I disconnect the fuel line, it will come out of it quicker, then reconnect the fuel line and its good to go. Once it comes out of it, it runs great. I have tried disconnecting the fuel line when I stop and shut down but doesn't make any difference. I rebuilt the motor last year and have 125psi in all 3 cylinders. Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Do you run fuel out of the carburetors when boat is not in use for a while ?-----If not then clean the carburetors.----Replace float valves.

Take these simple steps.---------Run with a timing light one cylinder at a time.----Observe the light.-----Run with air box cover off.----With a STRONG FLASHLIGHT observe fuel coming up the main nozzles and compare.---Perhaps test run with another tank and hose.-----Install new fuel pump diaphragm.

New fuel pump last year. Disassembled and inspected it when cleaned the carbs and looks good. I have a timing light so I can check the other 2 steps. Sounds like you are thinking its starving for fuel. I was thinking just the opposite as it will come out of it then run like a champ. Ill try those 2 things this weekend. Possibly friday afternoon
