I have a 1984 15 hp evinrude but I can't get it to start what things do I need to check

mine is also electric start does it need to be hooked up to work with the pull start cable

Check compression first. Then check for spark, getting it on both cylinders? If yes then it could be fuel related.

checked compression every thing is good but I don't have a spark what do i do

The first thing I always suspect with these motors is the power pack, they blow and then no spark. You could also disconnect the ground wire on the switch and test for spark and check the ground at the powerpack for corrosion. Powerpack is at the back right hand side of the motor. You will need to get a manual and the appropriate testing tools (DVA I believe) and test out the pack. Or you could bite the bullet and replace it and see if it fixes the problem. I have a spare in the garage for testing. But check for what I said to check first before dropping ninety bucks on a powerpack, could just be a bad switch/ground/broken wire.

disconnect the kill switch and recheck,they go bad,as do the saftey lanards on the newer engines,its possible you have a bad powerpack,but i see more switches than packs be the culprit,let us know

I changed the power pack I still dont have a spark what can it be

kill switch??? corroded connections, bad ground.

agree with TASH,your kill switchh is a lilely suspect,disconnect and try,you will need to choke to kill.Let us know what u find

It's the first thing I said to try, disconnect the ground wire going to the switch, then test the powerpack, not sure why people just go and replace expensive parts instead of testing things out first.
