Hello, I need a little help identifying the possible problem I am having.

I dropped my boat in the lake, everything seems normal. Then drove the boat WOT up and down the lake no problems. When I slowed the boat down and started trolling along, the overheat buzzer went off on my control box. I then gave the motor 3/4 throttle to WOT, and about 10 seconds later the alarm shut off. The motor was spitting out water very well, both WOT and at idle. Kind of lost, could it be a timing issue??

Timing would have nothing to do with that problem. That type overheating problem is normally a sign of a failing water pump.
