Hi folks. Just picked this up to go with my higher transom 14 ft boat... just wondering... according to my measurements... this shaft would be approximately 22.5-23 inches... which would be an extra long shaft I believe... but my model code of "L" clearly states it should be 20 inches... so I thought maybe someone added an extension kit... but that still wouldn't come out to my current measurements right??? Just trying to figure out what I have...
also... is the bottom supposed to look like this? Is certainly is different than my '57...
thanks for any help/tips!
mike

Long shaft fits a boat with a 20" transom.----Short fits a boat with a 15" transom.--------The extra long sailboat version has a 10" extension.----Not sure what you are trying to measure there with that tape.-----That motor is a LONGSHAFT !!----There has " long " been confusion how to tell a long shaft from a short shaft , and that will not change!!----And the bottom looks normal for that model motor made from 1980 to about 2005.----Have more than one myself too.

It's actually a 23 inch shaft... they made a 22.5 code "Y" that this is close to... definitely not a standard 20 inch ... it is 23 inches from the top of bracket to 1st cavitation plate directly above prop...

That's what I'm confused on lol... I was going by this guideline... also does the bottom look ok ? (From earlier pic) It kinda looks like it's missing a cover or something. Thanks again guys!
it also has a shallow water mode which led me to believe it was extra long...

Your motor compares exactly with my longshaft ( 20") 1984 6hp. That measures approx 23 " down to the AV plate
I bought that new so I know exactly what that is!

You can see your motor has a 5" extension piece, which is what makes it 20" rather than 15". Mine is the same.

What is odd about your motor is that it has two AV plates. The sail versions have two AV plates but they have exhaust outlets immediately below the upper AV plate ( the outlet behind the prop being blanked off) The idea being that you mount them on a sail boat with the prop deeper so that it does not come out of the water when the boat pitches

Something does not look quite right about the gearcase but I cannot put a finger on what it is. I reckon it could be a "bitsa" but it appears to be the correct length for your boat.

Don't raise it because the water pump is located on the top of the gearcase and raising it could lead to the pump being starved of water

That was the other question... it looks like those 2 screws should be holding something... and that small hole???? Cuz the water intake is by the exhaust (has screen) and outlet... well is on top of motor lol... sorry n thanks for your patience!

No again----The sacrificial anode is held by one screw !-----Those 2 screw you see hold the gearcase to the exhaust housing 5" extension.
