HI, newby here. Yesterday I was cruising down the river in my old 1983 Challenger 17ft fish and ski 1983 Evinrude V4 90 HP, running beatifully, when I saw a distressed boat, people flagging me down. I stopped and pulled them a half mile at low speed. When they were at the dock, I started to take off and could get no more than 2400 rpm's out of the engine. I had to ride back just like that, not even on plane. Two of my plugs look like they may have fouled. The throttle linkage seems fine. I did change fuel tanks and pump bulb when we stopped to drop tow. Does this sound like anything you guys would be familiar with?
Thanks in advance,
Frank

sounds like you lost fire to a cylinder. I would check my powerpacks and make sure that one of them did not go bad. When you pulled your plugs was one of them wet? If it was that is the pack that I would suspect. If nothing else this reply will get you back up to the top.

both the plugs on the port side of the boat looked wet. I will figure out how to test for fire on those. Thanks for you help.

Frank - If you were running fine until you changed fuel tanks I would think that would point in the direction on where to look. Water ??? air???? in the fuel delivery ?????

Ok, I have no spark on that side of the engine. That would take it back to the power pack wouldn't it?
Thanks Guys

I swapped power packs side to side and the problem followed, so I put a new one in and everything is even better than before, back on the water at 5500 rpm's.thanks to everyone who tried to help, you guys are great.
