I have a xp150 and the carbs need rebuilt due to lack of use. i got the kits and the clymer book. I have rebuilt carbs before so I'm not a total novice, but when attempting to remove the orafaces located in the float bowl to clean or replace as needed, the brass removal ears came apart on me. I used a screwdriver that fit properly but these guys were stuck very well. I only tried on 1 float bowl so far. I have another set of carbs but at 70$ for a bowl I don't want to ruin them. Is there a method to remove once the ears are gone? Have I ruined this Bowl? any help is appreciated. Is there a "secret" to getting them to release?

There is a kind of running debate/discussion going on on this forum about the merits of soaking carburetors. Removing jets has to be one of the issues.

To get the jets out of the metal carbs, you really need to soak them in cleaner - at least I have always had to. I use the gallon can with the basket that they sell at NAPA stores and so do a lot of others.

Once you give them a good soaking, carefully place the screwdriver in the slot and give it a tap. It should come out. If it does not, don't force it. You really don't need to remove the jets if you have the carburetor disassembled.
