The engine starts and runs fine on the water hose but when I put it in the water, it dies when I put it in gear. After several tries of reving and feathering the throttle, it will eventually go and runs ok. The Carbs were rebuilt last year and everyone says my problem is the low speed jets. I have torn the carbs down three times, soaked, cleaned, blown out, set the floats level, ect....still have the same problem. I realy think the problem is in the linage and timing. I bought the engine used and think it was a remote steering model that was converted to a tiller. I don't see a max or minium timing stop on the linkage and wondering if I am missing parts? Any help would be greatly appriciated. If any one has this engine, some pics of the linkage would be great,
Thanks!!!!!

No maximum spark advance stop?? Egad, that will kill your motor. Maybe it already has. That could be your running problem. Check the compression.

Speaking in generalities, it is a screw with a rubber bumper on the end that the timer base bangs up against at full advance.

I took some pics of my engine last night and will try and post them. I see where the Max spark stop should be, but there is not one there. What about a Minimun timing stop? And how do you set the idle without a minimun stop screw? Thanks for all the help.
