1984 mariner high idle

After cleaning carbs and setting low speed screws out about 1 1/4 turn from lightly seated I have a high idle in neutral and if put in gear clunks pretty good if I turn out it raises the rpms if I turn it in it lowers but then will die when shift to forward so I just need to keep trying to adjust a little at a time to get it just right or do I need to look somewhere else thanks

Iam guessing that the yellow and green wire is suppose to be both yellow coming from the stator is that what makes my tach work and charge my starting battery could I just splice back in to those wires or would I need to replace the whole stator nothing runs off the starting battery besides to start and the trim everything else runs off my deep cycle battery thanks
