Hey all, been a long time since I have been on here. I am currently trying to get my dads boat working. it is a 1984 Lund Tyee with a same year 90HP mercury stacked 6 outboard. It was started a few times a year for about 10 years and winterized every year. not used a lot due to me living in AZ and my father not having the mobility to use it. This year my friend and I decided to take it out. Had it out for 3 days straight with no problems except one instance of bogging where it felt like it was fuel starved then picked back up. 4th day we went to take it out and it did not want to run. on the muffs it would start out and run rough but in water we had no luck. my dad decided to take it in after i left and was told it was missing on 3 coils which tells me CDI box. As a former auto tech my experience finds this to be correct. The only thing i was worried about was the comp test numbers. 5 of six cylinders were around 140 while #6 was 120. in my experience with cars this points to an issue with that cylinder but with no outboard experience im not sure what to think.
Does anyone have any experience to tell me that i shouldnt worry about this? i have also been searching for CDI boxes to replace ours with. obviously OEM is preffered but does anyone recommend a certain aftermarket brand or brands to stay away from? i found some on amazon with good reviews for 35 each.
