Hey guys,
Just aquired an 84 Johnson 70 with T&T, hasn't been run normally in quite a few years, but has very few hours by the look, and had 125psi on all three cylinders cold.
Hooked the muffs up and mixed up some fresh gas to check her out...
She fired right up, but wouldn't stay running unless we kept pumping the primer bulb. Is this the fuel pump? Also, some oil had accumulated outside and below the prop, and the trim and tilt hums like it wants to work but won't quite raise the motor. (moves just very little)
I'm guessing the trim and tilt hydraulics need some fluid, a lot drained out when I loosened the set screw on the side of the cylinder to replace the o-ring that was torn by the P.O.
I'm going to order a rebuild kit for the carbs, rebuild the fuel pump, replace the water pump, and grab some new prop shaft seals. Also gonna replace the fluid in the hydraulics and the lower end.
What else do I need to do to freshen her up for daily use in the spring and how hard is it to replace the seals on the prop shaft? (Assuming that's what I need to replace?)
Thanks in advance, love this place!
Will
