Greetings fellow boaters,

I recently bought a 1984 22ft. Starcraft Islander I/O with an OMC outdrive. I put a new prop on it and took it on the first voyage without any issues. Engine runs great, hull is in great condition and interior is spotless. All is great except when steering the boat while going slow, especially when attempting to dock the boat. While on plane, no problem, it is fine. I am told it is either hydrolic or most likely a cable issue. I am told it could simply need to be greased. However, the boat is at my cottage and I cannot get to it for another couple weeks. I want to be as prepared as possible when I invesitgate the problem when I get over there. Any help would be much appreciated.

This boat was loaded with downriggers, 6 depth counting poles, enough tackle for 4 boats, fishfinder, and everything I could possibly need for not only the river action around Lake St. Clair, but Lake Erie as well. Paid 3400.00 for the boat and trailer and all equipment. Did I do okay?

Any help with the steering problem is greatly appreciated!

look out there is a bandit loose on the forum, Aren't you really ashamed of yourself. We should all be that lucky. Disconnect the steering from the outdrie it should turn free side to side If ok then ordr up a new steering the effort to repair can be a real sucker. Enjoy Nice boat

Good looking Islander, Rookie. And welcome to the Starmada.

By any chance do you have power steering that is low on power steering fluid? Just tossin' ideas.
