Hey everyone. Just aquired a 1984 Sylvan Deep V aluminum walk-thru. Transom is cracked and very weak. Anyone replaced the rotted wood? Pics and walk through instructions would be greatly appreciated. How do you open the transom to remove the old wood? Thanks

Is your boat outboard or I/O?

Re: 1984 Sylvan Deep V transom replacement

bigtrout, I answered your question on my thread. I'll go over it again for you here.

The first thing I did was to drill out all the rivets and remove all the screws that held on the splashwell. Then I removed the corner caps and upper rubrail. Remove all the screws that go along the length of the bottom of the transom. You also need to remove all screws, bolts and drain tubes that go thru the outer skin. I then used a pry bar and worked the bottom corners until the wood came free and I lifted it out.

I removed my upper rubrails because most of the rivets that held them on were broken so this was ging to be a repair in itself.

I replaced both of the splashwell drain tubes with plastic tubes from West Marine.

Can you post some pictures?

Hey! Just saw your reply. Many thanks. i think this is going to be a winter project. My Grandson and I will use the boat this summer and get serious about rebuilding when things slow down. I appreciate all the great advice on this forum. Thanks
