Re: 1984 Volvo Runs Rich!

I have had plugs foul in short order while trying to set up my AQ131D after installing it in the boat. To the point where the cylinder started to miss. My compression is all around 155 to 160 psi and I know the problem was fuel, not oil.

I would first do a compression test and see what the numbers are. If they are OK, I definitely think your problem lies in your carb.

Have a great day,

Rob.

So here is an update:

We think it has bad rings. They did a compression test and the numbers were OK, like 140 around, then they added oil in the cyls and the numbers went up.

They also indicated to me that the plugs are no longer fouling quickly. The engine does burn about 3/4 quart of oil in an hour. We think it might of had some of that snake oil worn engine crap in it that you buy at the auto store that was fouling the plugs.

So it needs to be diagnosed and repaired. Is the 4 cyl 8v Volvo engine a 2.5L or a 2.3L? If its a 2.3 its getting a car engine in it. With the proper marine equipment for your peace of mind.
