1985 120 johnson

What is the correct spark plug for this motor? I just got the motor from a friend and he installed spark plugs out of a 200 evinrude around the same year. The motor will miss on a load and not get on plane. It is on a 1996 170DC Nitro.

Any help will be appreciated.

champion QL77JC4 or QL16V gapped at .030.

have you check compression, and spark with a spark tester gapped at 7/16 inch, spark should be sharp blue.

I read some other posts and they said to use QL78YC. I ran a compression check and one side had 170 and the other had 150 on both cylinders. I know thats too much. I will say that the motor hasn't been started in a while before I ran the compression check and I don't know if that has anything to do with it though. I will need to get a spark tester and find a new compression gauge to recheck.

Different 120 for that plug, which is 1994 and more recent. Tashasdaddy is givng the correct and recommended plugs for 1985-1993.
