Performance - wise, it will probably be a wash. the Rude will probably give equal top speed and acceleration--assuming it is running well.

But my question is: Why would you want to put on an engine so much older? Has the Force crapped out and you have the Rude lying around? Understand that the Force is relatively easy and inexpensive to restore to running condition if you do the work yourself.

Realize that with the Rude being so much older it will have more corrosion issues (assuming it has been regularly used and not lying in a garage for 15 years) and is a heavier engine. You will need to change controls, some electrical, and probably the tach, and the Evinrude is a bit more of a complex engine to work on should something happen. And, It is still a good idea to change the water pump impeller and lower unit oil. Also if the Rude has the electric shift lower unit, they have a bad reputation and parts are not available for repair unless you can find a junker.

The 1974 Rude is NOT electric shift. It is powershift II. If the controls have two cables (gear/throttle) that verifies it.

The 74 Rude is still quite serviceable. It was one of the better V-4 OMC ever built.

The 125 Force was never really 125. It's serviceable too but it was never of the quality that the Rude was.

Is Southern Pa near the Delaware border within striking distance of you? And does your Force have the Prestolite with quick-connect fittings and black CD boxes? If so, PM me and we can try to get together. I have a few of the CD boxes and we can swap-out to see if it solves the problem.

Private message me your e mail address and I will give you instructions to my address. I am about 20-30 minutes North of the border. Next weekend would be good since I will be waiting for another boat with a 96 Rude to repair anyway. If that doesn't work for you, we can figure out another day.
