1985 140 Looper Exhaust Problem?

This is a new to motor and first looper (miss my crossflow already). Just a quick question regarding the exhaust. I do not have any water or exhaust coming out of the two top exhaust ports while running the motor on muffs. I took the deflector off so I could put my finger in the holes. Could feel any pressure. Is this normal for these motors?

That should be Could not feel any pressure.

And how does it behave with the boat in the water ?

Runs like crap. Do believe I am sucking air from somewhere. Will test boat side for air leaks in the near future. Not tomorrow thou wife says we need to go shopping.
