Just a fellow that rebuilds outboards said it’s happened to him said that the timing would need adjusting and it would run better and won’t blow up CDI’s

What have you done for the 20 to 30 HP conversion, does both models shares the same CC powerhead, with same carb, but surely with a carb and timing restriction going on between both 2. Usually more fuel intake needs slight more timing advance if the above applies...

Changed out intake manifold and carb. Bigger throat on carb and bigger intake on manifold. From my understanding the powerHeads are the same.
Now you have me wondering what would happen if I advanced the timing 🤔
Otherwise it runs great. Probably could afford to burn off more fuel. I have noticed some residue in the bottom of the cowl

For timing advance adjustments if needs to be performed, need the Service Manual to check if states a difference in timing advance between both models, some motor manufacturers reserves the right to publish them, doesn't want boaters fingering their less HP motors when the next ones are more costly to buy and already factory converted. If with no available info, stay there...

Just prop right the motor to run towards middle to max of its wot rpm range factory stated as will be loaded to take the max out of that combo.
