Hello, I have a 1985 25 hp Johnson that I’ve had for over 10 years and after sitting months I just change fuel and it starts right up. Lately I had it serviced and it ran fine but has sit for about 2-3 months and now it won’t start. Last time I took it out it had some fuel leaking from choke handle area but ran fine. I spray the carb with cleaner/starter spray and it will run for a bit. My question, is there a way to clean the carbs without taking them apart? I’m assuming it’s the carb since it runs from spraying fuel into carbs. Thanks.

Make sure you are getting fuel to the carb before going any further.
don’t run it with the spray can as it has no oil in it which means your running with no oil.

Drain carburetor bowl.----Use primer bulb to full it again.---Try starting motor.-----In the future run carburetor empty when done boating.----Fact, an empty carburetor does not gun up.

^^Agree. The carb is pretty easy to remove and service, though, particularly if the starter assembly is on top of the powerhead -- otherwise a little more tricky to remove.

Thank all for your responses. I drained the bowel and flushed with bulb, also disconnected the hose at the engine and did an additional flush from the bulb. Went and filled up my tank with fresh fuel and it started on the muffs. Next day took it to the water on my trailer and it wouldn’t crank. I think I flooded it with fresh fuel so tried full throttle while cranking. After a bit it started popping like it was trying to start and it finally did, I ran the motor in forward and reverse under full throttle and ran great. I’ll try it take it to the water this week. Thanks again everyone
