I have a extremely low hour 4hp- since it has sat for so long- I rebuilt the carb, installed new water pump and fuel pump- started on the 3rd pull!! It does not appear to be cooling correctly though. I can see water spitting from the above water exhaust- but still need some direction. I have the Seloc manual. Any help is appreciated- thanks.

Above the water exhaust ports consists of 8 holes- normal exhaust- not a leak. Thanks.

Dave, You say "It does not appear to be cooling correctly though..." Is the motor overheating?? Can you hold your finger on the powerhead without saying "Ouch!" The water spraying out the exhaust vents is normal if the pump is pumping.

Hi Dave,
Note that the exhaust cover on that motor will get fairly hot, as it is not actually cooled. However, the block around it is cooled, so you should be able to hold your finger on the motor block without scorching yourself. The exhaust cover is just that - a cover and offers no water circulation like on larger outboards. The inside surface of that plate is directly exposed to exhaust gases...
The spray you see coming out the rear of the motor leg is normal and indicates proper operation of the pump...
- Scott

Thanks for all your replys. I feel that it may be cooling to some extent- I really wish it had a tell tale so I was sure. It does feel like it may be getting too hot though as I have completely rehab'd this motor- including painting it with the OMC white paint- and even after a few minutes - it has all curled off around the block. I was thinking that on the outlet of the block I might drill a small passage for a tell tale - any thoughts? thanks.
